Total weight gain: I WIN at this week because I am not yet 200 pounds!
Percentage through pregnancy: 67.9%
Weeks until due date: 13
Food of the week (a.k.a. size of baby): The head of a cauliflower
— I’m definitely starting to feel uncomfortable at times, mostly after I’ve been sitting for a while and I stand up or walk. For a few minutes I feel a lot of pelvic pressure until Charlie repositions himself. Until then, I waddle and walk very slowly. This kid also really likes to kick my bladder. Nothing can describe that feeling, especially when you have to pee.
— Finally busted out the extra pillows for sleep. Definitely need to plop one between my legs for support and another against my back.
— If I have to pee, even a little bit, I can’t sneeze without a little of it leaking out. Lovely.
Worry of the Week: I’ve actually been pretty chill this week.
Weekly sins: Inactivity. Yesterday at work, I must have sat at my desk for 3-4 hours without getting up once. I had big plans to elliptical when I got home, but Charles and I decided to have a date night that included dinner, a movie (“Up in the Air” = fabulous!), and post-movie ice cream. Then I went to bed.
What I’m Looking Forward To: On Thursday, we have an ultrasound to find out whether my placenta has moved up. If so, it’s not necessary for me to have a c-section (although always possible), I can run again (although I can’t even imagine what that would be like right now), and we can have vaginal sex again (again, awkward?). Also, I’m looking forward to seeing the little guy again.
To circumsize or not to circumsize: Still debating.
Pregnancy moments of the week:
— BFF Ashleigh took me to Babies R Us last weekend, and the experience was completely different from the first time Charles and I went. She took me row by row, pointed out what items were for, told me which ones were crap, and made recommendations about what she thought might best fit our lifestyle. I had ….dare I say it?….fun! Our visit was preceded by a lovely lunch in which we talked about motherhood, marriage, jobs and all the great discussion topics that make having a friend like her so wonderful.
— We chose crib bedding (and my mother bought it for us!). Charlie is going to be so mod. We also got our Eames rocking chair for the nursery.
— In what will surely not be the last time this occurs, Charlie totally embarrassed me in front of my boss. She and another coworker were talking with me when I mentioned the baby was kicking. Coworker placed her hand on my belly and squealed when she felt him. Boss’ eyes lit up and asked if she could feel. As soon as her hand was on my stomach, Charlie completely shut down. Not a peep. THANKS, DUDE!
Best pregnancy gifts:
— Charles has the sweetest, most wonderful aunt and uncle. They surprised us with this precious, jungle-themed bouncy chair (is there a technical term for it, moms?) that also vibrates. Check out the little zoo animals hanging from the top! They also bought Charles a book about Home Improvement and his very own tool belt.
This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with his legs extended. He’s sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing his eyes, and perhaps even sucking his fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby’s brain is very active now. While his lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if he were born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don’t bother him, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.
Quotes of the Week:
— Charles (looking over the Registry): We need to mark the priority of these items. Indicate which things we need right away. Not like this Fisher-Price ass-clown thing.
— Mom: Let me feel Charlie (starts moving her hands all over my belly). Me: Mom, that’s my vagina.
— Mom: Wow, you look as pregnant as I did at nine months! Me: You really know how to make a girl feel thin.
— Me: Charlie has been kicking like crazy this week. Father-inLaw: Well, it was a big week for him. His testicles descended! (cheer goes up from family dinner table)
— I’m into the double digits! Only 99 days until Charlie is due.
— It is so odd to be scheduling events at work for mid April and May. I’ll be so close to Charlie!
— Welcoming my first day of Trimester 3 with insomnia. Sign of things to come?
–It’s official. The rings are off. Sigh. Maybe I can get a cheapo one until Charlie comes.
Some pics of me at Pregtastic! Being part of that show is still one of the best parts of my pregnancy.
